In 2005, Hill Thalis won the Barangaroo / East Darling Harbour International design competition. Spanning between these competition-winning schemes. The practice has built a strong reputation for design excellence across a range of project types and scales. Hill Thalis has won more than 20 competitions, commendations and awards for projects, from a variety of groups including the NSW Government, Institute of Architects (RAIA), Institute of Planners (RAPI / PIA), Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Development Corporations, the National Trust and local Councils.

Hill Thalis’ awarded projects are remarkably diverse – ranging from compact individual houses to apartment buildings that include a mix of uses, from intimate public places to whole new districts of the city, from sensitive heritage interpretation to the dramatic interventions and major infrastructure projects. Some are focused on reworking the ground plane of the public domain, while others propose new high-density buildings with a dramatic urban silhouette.

This diversity of awarded projects is unique in a small to medium scale practice in Australia. Hill Thalis combine our understanding of architecture and place with lucid contemporary design, providing strategic, independent advice to progressive clients.
