James is a NSW registered Architect with over a decade of experience in residential design across multiple scales, budgets, and stages.

Graduating from UNSW in 2010, James was awarded the University Medal, RAIA Graduation Prize, and Eric Daniels Prize in Residential Design. As a Frank Knox Memorial Fellow, and recipient of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, James completed a post-professional Master of Architecture at Harvard in 2016.

Prior to joining Hill Thalis in 2025, James worked as an Architect, Construction Manager, and Builder at leading design-build practices in both Sydney and New York.

James is a sessional academic at the University of Technology Sydney, tutoring within both the design & construction streams. In addition to this, James has regularly been invited as a guest critic to multiple institutions in both Australia and the United States.
