Centennial Park Bicycle Hub

The Hub is arranged in two distinct square volumes: one housing bike hire and storage facilities and the other a small café. A low canopy roof and elevated base unite the pair of complementary volumes, which punctuate the linear roof plane, allowing them to become visible markers in the landscape from distant viewpoints.

The building has been designed with a minimal footprint and limited hardstand, positioned to avoid removal of the existing trees. Perforated metal, luminous acrylic paneling and generous areas of glazing are intended to display differing degrees of transparency, reflectivity and luminosity at different times of the day. The Hub is intended to have calm presence along the edge of Grand Drive.

Architectural works on the Hub were completed in September 2015. Hill Thalis had no involvement with the subsequent retail and mechanical fitout and associated alterations.
